Database Use Instructions

Select an organization that produces outlooks for U.S. energy consumption.

  • EIA = Energy Information Administration (publishes Annual Energy Outlooks)
  • IEA = International Energy Agency (publishes International Energy Outlook)

Select energy source type. Consumption outlook metrics are in the units of quadrillion British Thermal Units (Quad BTUs).

  • Total: all energy sources
  • Coal: all types of coal
  • Gas: natural gas
  • Oil: all liquid fuels
  • Nuclear: nuclear power
  • Renewables: includes solar, wind and hydro for the EIA. Hydroelectricity is separate in the IEA predictions
  • Biofuels: bioenergy
  • Other: other types
